MVGR's 24th Sir Vizzy Trophy: A Triumph in Cricket for AY 2023-24
The Students Extension Activities (SEA) Committee of MVGR Engineering College recently concluded the 24th edition of the Sir Vizzy Trophy, a cricket tournament aimed at fostering a strong sports culture among its students. Named in honor of Pusapati Vijaya Ananda Gajapathi Raju, popularly known as Vizzy, the tournament has been a longstanding tradition at MVGR since its inception.
With the primary objective of nurturing a passion for sports right from the first year, the Sir Vizzy Trophy attracted participation from eight teams representing various engineering branches. Over the course of the academic year 2023-24, a total of seven matches were held, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit of the students.
The climax of the tournament unfolded on January 27, 2024, with an exhilarating final match between teams from the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Data Engineering Departments. Ultimately, the ECE team emerged triumphant, showcasing exceptional teamwork and skill on the field.
The awards ceremony, presided over by Director Prof. P. S. Sitharama Raju, was a moment of pride and celebration. Prof. Raju, along with the heads of the respective departments, felicitated both the winning and runner-up teams, acknowledging their dedication and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
The seamless coordination and execution of the event were made possible through the diligent efforts of key individuals, including Physical Director Mr. A. Ramachandra Raju, Dist Asst Prof; and Sports Incharge Mr. N. Gopi Chand, Senior Assistant Professor. Under the guidance of Prof. D. Rama Devi, Convener of the SEA Committee, the tournament achieved its objective of promoting a vibrant sports culture within the college community.
As MVGR Engineering College continues its commitment to holistic student development, events like the Sir Vizzy Trophy serve as catalysts for instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and resilience among its students.
